Principal's Message

Dear West Lab Family,

Congratulations!  For the thirteenth consecutive year, West Lab has earned the prestigious “A” designation from the Florida Department of Education and the State of Florida.  Our percentages of students making high standards on the SAT and FCAT reflect excellence in how we deliver our core curriculum.    Everyone’s brilliant and inspiring work is what makes our school a place where every child can learn regardless of their learning style or disability.

This year our Theme is Unlocking Inspiration:  As we begin our first year of the full implementation of the Florida Standards we have to support and inspire each other; there will be many challenges as we learn to let go.  The Florida Standards require us to let our students have more of a voice and ownership in their learning.  We have to change how we do our work in order for our students to be successful and make adequate learning gains.  We have to start with a clean slate; trust the process and believe that in order for children to learn we have to take risks that include not being the only voice in the classroom.

This year I challenge all of West Lab’s stakeholders to seek ways to be inspired and inspire each other – especially our students. 

West Lab’s teachers and support staff represent the most inspirational group of professionals that the education profession has to offer and I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure that the 2014-2015 school year is the most inspiring school year we’ve had.
