S.T.A.R./ Accelerated Reader
What is S.T.A.R.?
STAR is a 25 question assessment that will develop a reading range for your child based on their needs of the assessment. Basic comprehension questions are asked, but students are assessed on the following: The difficulty of the question, the length of the question, whether it was answered correctly or not, and how long it took the student to answer. STAR’s formula is very accurate and reliable. Students are tested at the beginning, middle and end of the school year.
Assessments cannot be retaken.
What is Accelerated Reader (AR)?
AR (short for Accelerated Reader) is a program that enhances a student’s independent reading skills and comprehension. Students check out books based on their level range given to them by the STAR assessment. Students read the book and then take a short quiz. Based on their score, students accumulate points throughout the school year. AR is ongoing through the end of school.
